THE HAPPY EDIT - OLIVER BONAS

Well, helloooo Spring.

This girl could not be any more ready for pastels, gingham and daffs and if there is any one season that screams tablescapes, it’s this one. Nothing says ‘new tablecloth’ better than Mother’s Day afternoon teas, Easter lunches, and a bonus excuse this year, the King’s Coronation in May.

Ever since our fave artisan tableware brand Vaisselle hit the scene post lockdown we have been obsessed with their vibrant ceramic crockery. However, they do come with quite a hefty price tag. Whilst we whole-heartedly support building up an enviable collection of crockery over time, we also love a seasonal theme. Fortunately, many budget-friendly dupes have sprung up everywhere (oh hey, Matalan Cream & Green Stripe Jug) with high street honey Oliver Bonas really embracing the colourful serve ware trend.

Like most, we have had a long-time love affair with Oliver Bonas, particularly their homewares, and their current tableware collection sings springtime fresh beautifully, particularly their Lila range. If their lush butterdish doesn’t fill you with seasonal joy, then I just don’t think this is the right blog for you.

I LOVE a butterdish. Growing up we never had one in our house and to little me they seemed kind of exotic. Let’s face it, they look way sexier than a tub of even the fanciest French butter on your table. Everything about the cheerful Mae is right – the classic shape, the lemon and rosy pattern, and the luxe gold handle. Imagine a Mother’s Day tablescape set with these gorgeous pink frilly edged embroidered placemats, lemon taper candles in this stunning glass candelabra, and fresh fuchsia tulips placed lackadaisically inside this yellow & white striped ceramic vase. Add a big bowl of fresh berries, a spicy guac and some toasted sourdough and you have the quintessential Mothering Sunday breakfast setting.

Spring’s lighter evenings make way for more relaxed styles of dining. This serving bowl is ideal for nibbles with friends (in the garden amongst the flowering plants, hopefully). We would fill it with torn cheese obviously (Burrata or Mozzarella), grilled peaches, and cantaloupe melon alongside peppered wild rocket leaves, served in this gorgeous salad bowl. To dress, this floral oil bottle is perfect serve a simple homemade Extra Virgin Olive Oil & Balsamic Glaze. Light a scattering of these charmingly scalloped neroli & orange blossom scented candles and messily place fragrant lilac hyacinths in this pink & green jug to really set the ambiance.

That said, the warmer weather doesn’t mean we have to give up comfort food completely. The investiture of King Charles is the perfect occasion to make Chef Kurt’s Coronation Chicken Pie (check out the recipe here). Whilst pastels aren’t the traditional Royal celebration colour palette, cooking for the occasion does give us the perfect justification for adding this scalloped edged (we love scalloped edges - can you tell?) oven dish to our cart. Dished up in these sunny bowls (there is a blue version if you want to keep it patriotic) and served alongside a Kir Royale in these stunning stemless ribbed champagne flutes - we can’t think of a better way to toast the crowning of the new monarch.

Innovative and pleasing colour palettes are at the heart of Oliver Bonas' products, producing chic and affordable trending pieces that never go out of style. Their contemporary take on classic style, whether in pastel hues or vibrant brights, never fail to disappoint, and this current tableware collection embodies this much loved ethos wholeheartedly. Oliver Bonas - it's a great fat yes from us.
